The Best Doctoral Proposal prize awarded to Hamidreza Pourzarei
Hamidreza POURZAREI, Ph.D. student supervised by Professors Conrad Boton and Louis Rivest, won the Best Doctoral Proposal award at the international PLM20 conference.
Hamidreza POURZAREI's doctoral project aims to use engineering change management (ECM) practices as a basis for accurate BIM and PLM comparison to obtain more benefits. Engineering change (EC) is an inevitable and critical issue for both the construction industry and generic product design/manufacturing, which is why managing EC is important for both BIM- and PLM-supported industry. ECM is a management process used to ensure the effective execution and recording of engineering changes. It is an important practice in both the construction industry and generic product design/manufacturing and is increasingly supported by the use of 3D models in BIM and PLM. The comparison of BIM and PLM from the standpoint of ECM will bring various benefits that can be categorized into three main contributions: 1) improving ECM descriptions (processes, tools, etc.), 2) characterizing the strengths and limitations of current ECM practices, 3) facilitating cross-pollination between BIM and PLM.
